Conference games pitting two teams close in the standings aren't supposed to play out like Monday's Big 12 contest.
Baylor (14-6, 5-2) completely dismantled Oklahoma, leading for the final 34 minutes and cruising to a 77-47 victory, the Bears' fifth straight win.
The Sooners had a dreadful night, specifically on defense, where the visitors had no trouble getting easy buckets at the rim (Baylor had a 38-18 advantage in the paint) and jumpers from any distance. Baylor shot 54% from the field and hit half of its 20 three-point attempts against a Sooners (15-6, 3-5) team that came into the night 11th nationally in field goal percentage defense.
"You don't have many nights like this (in the Big 12) and you're blessed when you do," Baylor coach Scott Drew told baylorbears.com.
The balance was extraordinary as well - no player scored more than 12 points (Makai Mason), but seven scored at least seven points in Baylor's most lopsided Big 12 road win since beating TCU 91-58 in February, 2014.
Let's not forget the Baylor defense, which was superb, holding the Sooners to 27% shooting and below 50 points for the first time since a 72-47 loss to Gonzaga in November, 2012.

Games 579-580: First Thursday, day games
NCAA Tournament first round
580 - (10) Oklahoma vs. (7) Rhode Island
March 15 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, PA
CBS
E.C. Matthews hit a pair of 3-pointers in overtime, the first giving Rhode Island the lead for hood and the second a huge shot with 28 seconds to go and seven on the shot clock that put the Rams up 79-74.
Thanks to a team-high 16 from Matthews and three others in double figures, Rhode Island survived, 83-78, moving on to play second-seeded Duke in Thursday's round of 32. It's the second consecutive trip to the second round for the Rams, who before last season hadn't been to the tournament since 1998-99.
For Oklahoma's Trae Young (28 points, seven assists and six turnovers), his freshman season, and potentially a brief collegiate career, came to an end.
579 - (11) Loyola-Chicago vs. (6) Miami
March 15 at American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX
TruTV
Donte Ingram!
After Morgan William's incredible shot in last season's womens national semifinals, I've decided that any time a player hits a game-winning shot in the tournament my lead will just be their name followed by an exclamation point.
Nothing better than a senior extending his team's season and that's what Ingram did when he drained a 3-pointer with .3 seconds left to send Loyola to round two.
The winning shot was made possible by a Lonnie Walker turnover. The Miami freshman dribbled the ball off his leg with 23 seconds left (great defense by another freshman, Lucas Williamson, who helped by first deflecting the ball), and though Loyola missed a pair of shots at the other end, Walker missed the front end of a one-and-one, which preceded Ingram's dramatic bucket.
It's the first NCAA win for the Ramblers since a 70-57 triumph over SMU in the 1985 round of 32.
Other games watched:

We finally got to see Trae Young play and the Oklahoma freshman had his worst game as a collegiate. Harassed all game by multiple defenders, Young turned the ball over 12 (!) times in an 87-69 loss for the Associated Press No. 4 Sooners.
Young still scored 20 points, though it came on 21 shots (and he was 2-of-10 from three-point range), and handed out six assists. The guard remains the country's leader in scoring (29.5) & assists (9.8).
Young, who tonight reached the 500-point mark in a ridiculous 17 career games, was featured coming into the night, especially considering he was three days removed from a 43-11-7 performance against TCU, but the host Wildcats turned into the main story.
KSU shot 73% (19-of-26) from the field in the second half (and had 12 assists on those 19 made baskets), including 10-of-11 at one point, to pull away. Fantastic games for Barry Brown (24 points, 10-of-17 from the field) and Dean Wade (16 of 21 points in the second half to go along with seven assists), who each overshadowed Young.

Games 210 & 211 - Two remain
NCAA national semifinals
211 - (10) Syracuse vs. (1) North Carolina
210 - (2) Oklahoma vs. (2) Villanova
April 2 at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX
TBS
When the first of the following phrases were said by the announcing team:
* Grant Hill's first time calling Bill Raftery "Coach" - 14:21 left in first half
* Jay Wright dresses well. The reason I know this is because the announcers mention it EVERY SINGLE TIME VILLANOVA PLAYS. Hill invented yet another GQ/Jay Wright nickname and it was "JQ" (9:15 left in first)
* "Blow by" - 1:10 in first
* "Dribble drive" - 18:52 in second half
Some other made-up nonsense:
"Post rubs" (said twice)
"Space dribble (2)
"Trying to body search"
"Value the ball"
"Pick and pop" (2)
* And finally, Raftery said "they gotta get into the game a little bit, Oklahoma, the sooner the better" and "a little ricochet romance!", so he wasn't getting away with either of those things.
