The Jayhawks erased a four-point halftime deficit to pick up the Maui Invitational title with a 70-63 win.
Kansas bounced back from a loss to Michigan State with three wins in Maui by an average margin of more than 25 points, and they won the championship Wednesday thanks in large part to excellent work from behind the arc.
Wayne Selden, who led all scorers with 25 points, hit 4-of-6 from three, part of a 50% team effort (8-of-16) from long range, while the Jayhawks held Vanderbilt to just 22% (6-of-27) there-point shooting.
Vanderbilt settled for the runner-up trophy, but played well during the tournament. The Commodores blew by St. John's, 92-55, and Wake Forest, 86-64, and I expect the Nashville school, coming off a run to the NIT quarterfinals a year ago, to again put themselves in position for an NCAA berth.
