Games 494-495: Monday doubleheader

495 - West Virginia at TCU
January 22 at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, TX
ESPN

Huge win for TCU, which held the visiting Mountaineers to 33% shooting in an 82-73 win.

Nice balance on offense as well for the Horned Frogs as Alex Robinson led the way with 17 points, while Desmond Bane (15 points), Vladimir Brodziansky (14) and reserve Kouat Noi (13) all played huge roles.

That's the first win for TCU in 11 games (and six at Schollmaier) in the series since the two teams became Big 12 foes in 2012-2013.

Game 465 - West Virginia at Oklahoma State

December 29 at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, OK

"18-game grind"
"rim protector" (3)
"the mount rushmore of college basketball"
"a nose dive into the hardwood"
"stretch four"
"ball hawk"
"create help situations"
"basketball" (17)
"they share the basketball"
"hedging ball screens"

Games 363-364: Getting to the title game

364 - (3) UCLA vs. (2) Arizona
Pac 12 semifinals
March 10 at T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV
ESPN

I also caught the last overtime and a half of a four-OT win by top seed Cal Bakersfield over fourth-seeded Utah Valley in the WAC semifinals.

Didn't get her name, but the color commentator ended the broadcast with this quote about what these teams put into this game:

"They've put their heart and soul....and sweat....and probably tears."

Heart, soul, sweat, and probably tears!

363 - (6) Kansas State vs. (2) West Virginia
Big 12 semifinals
March 10 at Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO
ESPN

Somehow West Virginia was able to make just 16 of its 60 field goal attempts and still win 51-50 to move on to the Big 12 final against fourth-seeded Iowa State.

The Mountaineers will try for their first conference title since the 2009-10 final four team won the Big East.

Game 247 - TCU at West Virginia

Games 191-192: Tourney rolls on

192 - (12) Yale vs. (4) Duke
NCAA Tournament round of 32
March 19 at Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI
CBS

A nice, solid group of basketball phrases & general nonsense from the broadcast team during this 71-64 Duke win:

"Skill set"
"Leave it out here on the floor"
"Got his hand in the cookie jar"
"Feathery touch"
"Dribble drive"
"Taking the air out of the ball" (said twice)
"You have to believe in yourself"

191 - (14) Stephen F. Austin vs. (3) West Virginia
NCAA Tournament second round
March 18 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY
CBS

After this 70-56 win by Stephen F. Austin (and with No. 11 seed Northern Iowa knocking off sixth-seeded Texas late Friday), eight teams seeded 10th or lower won first-round games.

Game 52 - Marshall vs. West Virginia

December 17 at Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, WV
ESPNU

After a tight first half, it was easy to see over the final 20 minutes why West Virginia could at least be a Sweet 16 team in March.

Marshall hit six of its first 12 three-point attempts, led by as much as five points and eventually trailed only 35-32 at halftime. The second half was a different story as the Thundering Herd missed all 13 attempts from behind the arc and WVU's pressure eventually was far too much for its in-state rival to handle in a 86-68 final.

The Mountaineers were the best offensive rebounding team in the country coming in and they showed why, grabbing 22 in 40 minutes.

This list of the top 10 offensive rebounding teams is so random & great:

1. WVU
2. Quinnipiac
3. Washington
4. Texas-Arlington
5. Baylor
6. Wagner
7. Georgia Tech
8. Towson
9. N.C. State
10. N.C. Central
