Game 425 - Long Beach State vs. Oregon State
November 24 at HP Fieldhouse in Orlando, FL
[Advocare Invitational consolation round]
espn3.com
Long Beach State got some revenge for a loss to the Beavers back on November 18, winning 74-69 Friday afternoon.
Two big reasons for the 49ers picking up a split in the season series:
1. Junior guard Deishuan Booker, in his first season with Long Beach after transferring from the College of Southern Idaho, had 12 assists and just two turnovers to go along with 14 points. In the loss in Corvallis, Booker was held to five points and had a 1-to-5 assist-to-turnover ratio.
2. The OSU duo of Tres Tinkle and Drew Eubanks had a combined 46 points on 16-of-23 shooting in match up No. 1, but weren't much of a factor on Friday (21 points, 9-of-22 from the field).
Long Beach shot 52% (13-of-25) from the field in the second half. That's after knocking down 51 percent of its second half shots in the first meeting.

Game 347 - (2) Stanford women vs. (1) Oregon State
Pac 12 championship
March 5 at Key Arena in Seattle, WA
ESPN2
Oregon State's defense came into the title game tied for eighth nationally in scoring defense, but it was the Cardinal defense that was the most impressive.
True, Stanford came in 21st allowing an average of just 56 points, but the Beavers fell well below that in a 48-43 defeat. Oregon State scored seven points in each of the final three quarters and shot 16% from the field in the second half. Outstanding Oregon State guard Sydney Wiese was harrassed with double teams all night and never really got going, finishing with 13 points on 4-of-13 shooting.
Amazingly, OSU started the game hitting its first six shots and led 16-3 5 1/2 minutes in.
The most impressive individual performance came from Alanna Smith, who was great off the bench with 18 points and half of Stanford's eight blocked shots.
It was fitting that these two closed the Pac 12 season with such a close contest. In the two regular season meetings, OSU won 72-69 in double overtime in January and 50-47 in late-February.
The Cardinal won their 12th Pac 12 title.

Game 321 - Oregon State at Stanford
February 22 at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, CA
ESPNU
Outstanding shooting night for Stanford, which made 57% of their shots and never trailed in a 79-66 win.
Not only was the offense playing at a high level - Reid Travis and Marcus Allen each scored 17 points and combined to hit 15 of their 22 field goals to lead the way - but the Cardinal defense had 13 steals and forced 21 turnovers.
Its been a miserable season for Oregon State and the Beavers couldn't capitalize on their first Pac 12 win over Utah last weekend and fell to 1-15 in league play and 5-24 overall. The good news for OSU is second-leading scorer Stephen Thompson, who scored a career-high 31 against the Utes but struggled Wednesday with just eight points on 3-of-11 shooting, post players Drew Eubanks and Gligorije Rakocevic, who didn't (combined 37 points), and Tres Tinkle, who was leading the team in scoring before suffering a wrist injury, are all sophomores.
Things should be better for the Beavers in 2017-2018.
* Meanwhile, color commentator Brad Daugherty is doing just fine this season. Daugherty said the word "basketball" a total of 46 times during the broadcast and he displayed the type of balance only the greats achieve: 24 times said in the first half, 22 in the second.

Game 212: (2) Oregon state women vs. (1) Connecticut
NCAA national semifinals
April 3 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN
ESPN
One win to go for the Huskies, who cruised past another opponent (80-51) and are now just a Tuesday victory from a fourth consecutive national title and 11th overall.
It is an absolute pleasure to watch Connecticut play basketball, and not just the stars. You can see the future of Connecticut basketball every single game because 1. plenty of underclassmen contribute; 2. plenty of 9th/10th/11th-players get their 5, 6 minutes at the ends of these routs & 3. Geno Auriemma is the best womens basketball coach of all time.
Of course, the stars are a joy to watch as well.
* Morgan Tuck is just a junior, but knowing very little about scouting or what WNBA teams currently need I would still expect her to forgo her senior year and be a first round pick.
With Breanna Stewart at two fouls just 2:05 in, Tuck took over, and honestly, this semifinal felt one-sided earlier than I expected.
* Stewart is so good that she had those two fouls and was held to just two first-half points, yet still finished with 16 points and only one more foul committed. And she played until a minute remained in the opening quarter.
I'm more impressed with Stewart each time I see her play.
* And I haven't even mentioned Moriah Jefferson, who is a phenomenal point guard with quickness and a pretty mid-range jump shot and who I expect will be an all star at the next level.
Connecticut is bad for womens basketball? No, all of the idiots who have said that, especially that one idiot.
Connecticut is a phenomenal team that wins a lot.
That's just GOOD.
