Game 424 - Thanksgiving eve matinee

Farmingdale State women at Stony Brook
November 22 at Island Federal Credit Union Arena in Stony Brook, NY

This had the look of a Division 1 team hosting a Division 3 school as Stony Brook used another stifling defensive performance to cruise to a 76-25 victory.

Stony Brook is 4-0 for the first time since 1997-98.

Farmingdale made just 10 field goals (18%) from the field and three from behind the arc in 26 attempts (11%). Senior forward Essence Casey came into the game averaging 18.2 points through Farmingdale's first four games, but struggled Wednesday, scoring just eight points on 3-of-16 shooting.

Through four games, the Stony Brook defense is surrendering just 31% shooting from the field and 18% on threes.

On the other hand, the Stony Brook offense has a bit of work to do. Facing a smaller, slower Division 3 team, the Seawolves turned the ball over 16 times and didn't score their first point until the 5:06 mark of the opening quarter. The hosts did follow with a 16-0 run that effectively put the game away.

Carl Reuter

Let me start by saying 1. I really love saying and writing Farmingdale. 2. Also: Reuter was by himself for this broadcast. No color commentator. That's rare, and I commend anyone handling a broadcast by her/himself.

I should know all about it. I broadcasted 7 minutes of a game once.

BUT, that doesn't mean Carl didn't provide some nonsense:

* Farmingdale was playing its second game in as many nights, and Tuesday it lost in overtime to Brooklyn, so Carl said seven times that the Rams had "tired legs".

Honorable mentions

"dribble drive"

!

[4:50 left in the third quarter]

"leak out
"she's strong, she's durable, and a take charge player"
"building the culture"
"stick a J"
"take the air out of the ball"
"snakes her way and the foul!"
"in the act of shooting"
