Big night for Heritage, which went on the road in front of a raucous North Atlanta crowd and won 59-53 to reach the state semifinals for the first time since 1984-85.
The Patriots (17-8) will play Gainesville, a 111-66 winner over Lakeside-Evans Wednesday, in the Class AAAAAA final four.

After the Heritage girls built a lead as large as 16 points & hung on for a 40-35 victory, Michael Green took over the nightcap.
The Salem guard scored a career-high 36 points on 13-of-19 shooting and the Seminoles won a thriller, 63-62 in overtime.
Green is an unsigned senior, but he'll find a collegiate home and Tuesday he put on a show for any potential scouts in attendance. Green scored all 13 of Salem's first-quarter points and 16 of its 19 in the opening half, nailing his first four 3-pointers.
He added 17 more in the second half, then drained a huge three with 1:20 left in the extra session (he finished 7-of-8 from behind the arc) to get Salem to within 62-61. Green's back court mate, Devonate Hedgespeth, hit the eventual winning free throws with five seconds to play. It was the Seminoles' fourth consecutive win and it pulled them even with their cross town rivals at 7-3 in Region 8-AAAAA.
Since starting the year 15-1, Heritage has dropped four straight.

Heritage HS at Brookwood HS
January 12 at Brookwood HS gymnasium in Snellville, GA
The Brookwood basketball teams had no problem picking up non-region victories over Heritage on Tuesday.
* N'dea Jones, an unsigned junior with plenty of high-Division I looks, had 28 points and 13 rebounds as the Brookwood girls won 51-29.
Jones, who I'd imagine will end up somewhere in the SEC or ACC, scored six of those points during an 11-0 run that turned a four-point deficit into a 17-10 lead early in the second quarter. The Broncos' cushion wouldn't fall below five points the rest of the night.
* Donald Parham was one of six in double figures in a 96-68 victory in the boys nightcap. It was the most points Brookwood has scored since also getting 96 in a win over Athens Christian in November, 2013.
The Gwinnett County school went just 7-19 a year ago, but thanks to excellent guard play, including Parham and Trae Higginbotham (16 points) the 12-5 Broncos' have nearly doubled their win total from last season & with a month still to go in the regular season.

It's expected to be a nice winter for both of the basketball teams at Heritage, and Discovery found out why Saturday afternoon.
The girls started the day with a 68-27 blowout as their top two players - sophomore center Camille Saunders (23 points & 15 rebounds) and junior guard Asia Caldwell (17 points) led the way.
The boys reached the Sweet 16 a season ago and this year are a potential state final four team. Juniors Isaiah Banks (14 points) and Byron Abrams (10 points) are Division 1 prospects and Jordan Thomas (16 points) will also play somewhere at the next level. Not to mention seniors Makyle Wilkerson, a Division III prospect, and Charles Moore, who if he can add a jumper may end up being the best collegiate of the group.
The Patriots also play team defense extremely well and Saturday's 80-47 romp helped them move to 5-0.
