Game 540 - Kentucky at Arkansas

February 20 at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, AR
ESPN

This game was tied at 43-43 at halftime, but Kentucky played a strong second half - shot 45% from the field and held the second-leading scorer in the SEC, Jaylen Barford, to just four points on 1-of-8 shooting - in an 87-72 win.

Kevin Knox finished with a team-high 23 points and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander handed out seven assists with just two turnovers and added 18 points for the Wildcats. That's six straight in the series for Kentucky (last Arkansas win was in February, 2014).

Daryl Macon did all he could for the Razorbacks, who saw a four-game winning streak come to an end. The SEC's fourth-leading scorer dropped in a game-high 26 (8 1/2 above his average) and was the only Arkansas player to provide much of anything in the second half as he scored 12 on 4-of-8 shooting while his teammates added just 17 points over the final 20 minutes.

Arkansas opened up an 11-0 lead three minutes into the game. Kentucky eventually settled in, taking a three-point lead late in the opening half and went up for good on Knox's lay-in with just under 12 minutes to play.

Bench production was a complete mismatch as Kentucky reserves out-scored Arkansas's 38-6 with three Wildcats' finishing in double figures and contributing in other ways: P.J. Washington (13 points and 10 rebounds), Quade Green (12 points, six rebounds and four assists) & Jarred Vanderbilt (11 points and nine rebounds).

Games 477-478: Wednesday doubleheader

478 - LSU at Arkansas
January 10 at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, AR
SEC Network

Not sure we've seen a worse shooting half at this site than Arkansas' first 20 minutes. The Razorbacks were 6-of-33 (!) in the first half and went down 41-21 at the break on their way to a 75-54 loss.

LSU, on the other hand, was excellent in both halves (55%, 50%). Point guard Tremont Waters struggled with his shot (just 3-of-10 from the field), but handed out eight assists, while the inside belonged to the visitors as 6-11 Duop Reath (11 points, 5-of-10 shooting) and 6-10 Aaron Epps (13 points, 11 rebounds, 5-of-7 shooting) led a 44-26 advantage in the paint.

477 - Duke at Pittsburgh
January 10 at Peterson Events Center in Pittsburgh, PA
ESPN2

Complete dominance from Duke, which got 16 points and 15 rebounds (nine offensive!) from Marvin Bagley in an 87-52 win.

The Blue Devils, who lead the country in scoring, jumped out to leads of 10-0, 32-12 and 43-13 (at that point Pittsburgh was out-scoring Bagley just 13-12), had 21 assists to just six turnovers and had six score in double figures.

Game 334 - (14) Arkansas women vs. (11) Florida

SEC first round
March 1 at Bon Secours Wellness Center in Greenville, SC
SEC Network

This game went from a possible Arkansas upset to a fairly-comfortable Florida win thanks to a dominant third quarter stretch for the Gators.

Led by first-team all-SEC member Ronni Williams, Florida turned a two-point deficit into a 47-35 lead with a 14-0 run over the final 5 1/2 minutes of the period and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 71-61 victory.

Williams scored 10 of the points during the run, including a pair of strong drives that led to lay-ins, a short jumper with her off hand and a steal and lay-up. Williams, who finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds, appears more than ready to move on to the WNBA, and draftsite.com projects the 6-0 forward as a second-round selection in next month's draft.

Florida's defense was excellent as well, holding the Razorbacks to 34% shooting, picking up a season-high-tying 10 blocked shots and winning the rebounding battle 50-32.

Nice night also for Florida junior Dyandria Anderson, who did a lot of everything with 19 points (on 7-of-10 shooting), nine rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Arkansas forward Jessica Jackson, which draftsite.com projects as being selected three spots ahead of Williams, had a really difficult day, hitting just three of her 16 shots for a team-high 10 points before fouling out. The Razorbacks finished a 13-17 season having lost their final 11 games.

Game 144 - Arkansas at Alabama

March 2 at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, AL
SEC Network

We spent an evening listening to Joe Dean Jr. in early-February and he was back Wednesday in Arkansas' 62-61 win.

Joe?

"He uses the banking board!"
"Sluffing off!"

(Banking board?)
(Sluffing?)

3-pointer goes in: "Playing a little string music!"

and

"Avery Johnson a former NBA star."

NO.

Ball stuck in between the backboard and the rim, part 3!

* Now including slightly-amused guy in bottom, right corner!

Game 104 - Arkansas at Florida

February 3 at O'Connell Center in Gainesville, FL
SEC Network

A couple pieces of nonsense from commentator Joe Dean Jr. in this 87-83 Gators' win:

1. "You got the Gator ball boy woppin it up."

Woppin?

2. [On a second-half dunk] "And he plays a little stuffarino!"

Joseph!

* We also added a Scoochie Smith All Star in Arkansas junior forward Moses Kingsley.
