I imagine Utah was feeling pretty confident heading into Friday's game. The fifth-seeded Jazz had just evened the series and secured home-court advantage with a win in Houston in game two.
That confidence went away in a hurry.
The top seed had a dominant first quarter and were never threatened in winning 113-92 to take a 2-1 series lead.
The Rockets, who won an NBA-best 65 games during the regular season, shot 61% in the opening period (16-of-26), assisting on 10 of those made baskets and led 39-22 through one. The lead grew to as much as 88-50 in the third on a long Eric Gordon 3-pointer with 4 1/2 minutes to play.
Gordon was great off the bench, finishing with 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Gordon and James Harden led all players in scoring with Harden adding 12 assists.
Game four is Sunday.
