Just a phenomenal performance by Northwood's Jordyn Nurenberg - 32 points and 13 rebounds - but it wasn't enough as host Grand Valley State won 68-55 to advance to this weekend's semifinals.
Nurenberg, playing in what turned out to be her final collegiate game, hit 11-of-17 shots, but didn't get nearly enough help as her teammates could only collect 23 points on 7-of-34 shooting (20%).
Grand Valley State, which improved to 22-6, had four players in double figures, led by Piper Tucker's 16-point night. Point guard Janae Langs did a bit of everything with 11 points, seven rebounds and seven assists; Taylor Lutz also scored 11 points and handed out four assists in 38 minutes and Taylor Parmley added 10 points and eight rebounds.
The GLIAC semifinals and finals will be hosted by top seed and unbeaten Ashland (29-0), which rolled to a 91-63 victory over eighth-seeded Walsh in another quarterfinal and plays No. 4 seed Michigan Tech in the semis.
Ashland, ranked No. 1 in Division II by the WBCA coaches, was knocked out of the 2016 national tournament in the round of 32, while Grand Valley State defeated its 2017 semifinal opponent Saginaw Valley (March 4 at 4 pm) in the round of 32 on its way to a final four appearance.
