Manhattan's 75-61 victory, just its fourth in 17 MAAC games, had a lot to do with Kayla Grimme (25 points on 11-of-15 shooting) and Amani Tatum (eight assists and five steals to go along with 11 points).
Grimme made all six of her shots during a pivotal third quarter, and towards the end of that period Monmouth subbed in 6-5 Erica Balman to guard the junior center. By then it was too late, and though Grimme didn't score the rest of the game, the Jaspers' lead also didn't fall below nine points the rest of the way.
Monmouth led by as much as seven points in the early stages of the second, but the top three-point shooting team in the conference made just 5-of-23 from behind the arc and shot 33% overall in the second half. That's when Manhattan got some distance, turning a deficit into a one-point lead on a Grimme 3-pointer with 4 1/2 minutes to play in the second & the visitors never trailed again.
The teams combined for a ridiculous 53 turnovers - 27 for Manhattan, 26 for Monmouth.
