Syracuse erased a seven-point deficit over the final 4 1/2 minutes of the second half to force overtime, and led by two a minute into the extra session. But the Cardinals followed with a 10-0 run and led for good.

For some reason, Louisville decided to foul a three-point shooter, up five with 13 seconds to go, and Andrew White made all three to get the Orangemen to within 74-72. Then Jaylen Johnson helped out some more at the other end, missing a pair of free throws.

Syracuse's last chance came on a White three that turned into an offensive rebound by Tyler Roberson and ANOTHER FOUL by Louisville with less than three seconds on the clock. Roberson missed both and Ryan McMahon sealed a 76-72 win with two charity shots.

White's air ball was the last of 26 misses in 34 attempts from behind the arc for the hosts (Louisville came into the night third nationally in three-pont defense). That led to Sad Jim Boeheim:
