Things were going quite well for Loyola about nine minutes in when Brandon Brown hit a jumper to put the Lions ahead 19-11. But Portland followed with a 23-0 run and finished the half on a 35-7 spurt and were never threatened again.
Loyola made nine of its first 17 shots, then missed 17 of their final 19 of the opening half.
Meanwhile, Portland had great balance as six players scored at least eight points. Bryce Pressley led the way with 25 points, showing why he's one of the finest shooters in the country (top 25 nationally in three-point percentage coming in) after knocking down 7-of-13 from long range.
Loyola kept letting Portland shoot 3-pointers and Portland (14 made from behind the arc) kept saying thank you for letting us shoot 3-pointers.
